For those who don’t know, I have a children’s book coming out Spring 2010!
It has been a WONDERFUL labor of love. So in preparation of getting it published I had to get some professional pics done, you know, for press releases and pics sent to newspapers and magazines who may be interested in doing a profile on me.
Well, who would have remotely thought that trying to get professional pics would be a job in itself.
First I went to Glamour Shots. I was drawn to the fact that I could get my hair and makeup done by a professional. I was feeling kinda lazy and thought it would be a great added value to sit in a chair and get made over. Well, it wasn’t quite worth it. For one, I am a busy mom and I didn’t have 3 hours to waste taking pictures. Then after all that shooting and 3 outfit changes, a salesperson pulled out a price sheet and tallied up some $1,200 plus charges for pictures. I asked her if the comma was in the right place because she was not showing me nothing that said a thousand ANYTHING!
Then after ALL THAT, I ended up purchasing two measly poses for a $200 and some dollars. Did you hear me? TWO POSES for $200!
And I didn’t even care for the shots!
I was so sick to my stomach that I couldn’t sleep that night. I woke up the next day on a MISSION to make things right. So after all the glitz and glam, I decided to SIMPLY GO TO SEARS and get a good head shot. And I did. The picture above is from Sears. AND I did my OWN HAIR AND MAKEUP!! But the sad thing is I dropped yet another $200!
I am chalking it up as a business expense and a hard-lesson learned. Sometimes go with the old-faithful. I go to Sears for my family portraits and I have always been happy with them. I tried something new and I didn’t quite like it. But sometimes we do have to try something new and step outside the box. I just wish I had gone to Sears in the first place and saved myself a pretty penny!
