Pitch a Tent and Support The Great American Backyard Campout

I’ve got one kid who is totally an outdoorsy type of girl, a son who would live in the woods if I let him and another daughter who runs if an ant inches her way. So the thought of camping outdoors is a divided concept at our house. But it’s doable.

Tomorrow, June 25th, thousands of people across the nation will gather in their backyards, neighborhoods, communities and parks to take part in a one-night event, The Great American Campout, that provides an experience for all generations to open the door and sleep out under the stars.

I’m doing it with Team Smith tomorrow if the rain lets up. If not we might just wait until Fall to pitch a tent.  The kids are looking forward to it.

The Great American Backyard Campout is part of the special event series from National Wildlife Federation’s Be Out There™ movement. NWF uses 80 cents of every dollar raised in the Great American Backyard Campout® to support programs that address the problems of America’s indoor childhood and the health risks associated with them. The funds are used to establish and maintain programs to make outdoor time a priority to protect children’s health and ensure their readiness to learn.

2. Register as an individual camper

3. Join an existing team near you. There are quite a few shared events taking place at parks and campsites across the country.
