John Carter: a Sci-Fi Action Adventure with a Romantic Twist!

If you’re looking for something to do tonight for a date night, then I know just the movie that will have you laughing and longing to be in love.

And when a woman falls in love with a man in whatever century, it always makes your heart keep a beat and hoping for a fairytale ending. Well I got the chance to see the new sci-fi movie John Carter and to my surprise it was not only an action-adventure, but it was a love song of sorts and ode to the prince who will save the day and get the girl.

I thought it was was just going to be action and butt-kicking but was pleasantly surprised by the turn it took. Especially because for the first time I got to take my husband to this advanced sneak-preview of Disney new sci-fi adventure John Cater and it was a date night for us. So what a delight to see a movie that was also a bit romantic.

John Carter is an action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars).
“John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

And the 3D effects were phenomenal. Willem Dafoe did a stand-out job as Tars Tarkas, the creature on Barsoom and believe it or not, that was really Willem Dafoe performing on stilts! And you’ll just love the trusty little dog creature that follows John Carter around.

But what I truly loved was the ending. It’s hard these days to be innovative enough to surprise me but it was great seeing how the story truly all came together. It was quite a surprise to me. I had a “wow” moment at the end.

So tonight make sure you head for the theater and put John Carter on your radar for this soon-to-be block-buster adventure. It’s funny, delightful and romantic, all the ingredients for a mega 2012 movie hit! Two thumbs up!
