Update: Tameka Raymond’s Son Kile pronounced brain dead

UPDATE: I am devastated by the news I learned last night that Tameka Raymond has to bear the news that her son is brain-dead. The body can’t live without the brain and it’s a matter of time before he is removed from life support which is keeping him alive artificially. This is just horrible. I am still in shock. Below is the post I wrote before I heard the news. Pray for Tameka and Kile’s dad Ryan Glover.

I can’t even think straight after getting a text message from my friend who broke the news to me that Tameka Raymond’s son Kile was in critical condition. My heart immediately melted with that aching “oh-no” feeling you get when you know something’s deeply wrong. No mom EVER wants to hear that their child was injured especially when they were away. And then my mind pictured the sweet 11-year-old boy in a scarecrow costume that Tameka showed me a picture of just last month! Oh no, not this sweet handsome boy. I can’t believe he’s hurt.

It breaks my heart that Tameka’s 11-year-old son Kile Glover was hit by a jet-ski while he was being pulled on an inner tube along with a 15-year-old friend at Lake Lanier.

Kile and a teenaged friend were on an inner tube on a lake when a jet ski being operated by a 38 year old man ran into the tube, knocking Kile and the unnamed 15 year old girl into the water. When emergency workers arrived to the scene, Kile and the young lady were immediately flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston, according to fire chief David Kimbrell.

I am praying for God’s MIGHTY GRACE today.

As a mom of five like Tameka, we share a lot in common. We connected just recently when I had the blessed opportunity to have Tameka host a diaper drive for my non-profit Atlanta Diaper Relief. And we have had many off-twitter chats about life and our kids that I have kept confidential. We connected. Just two moms chopping it up about our babies. We even discussed the difficulties she has had finding GOOD help to watch over her kids. And now this. And to add insult to injury this just happened to happen when Tameka was out of town. That’s a mother’s MAJOR nightmare.

This is a tragedy no matter how you slice it. My heartfelt prayers go out to Tameka because I know she is a very involved mom. Her ex-husband Usher chartered a plane so Tameka could immediately be flown in to by Kile’s side at Children’s Hospital Eggleston. As a mom, I KNOW she has a million questions about who was watching him, how did this happen and who was the idiot riding the jet-ski that hit her baby. Kile was struck in the head.

But even though those questions remain unanswered, right now the questions that need to be asked is God can you please make this right. Please save Kile and bring that baby back to his mother and soothe Tameka’s heart and their whole family at this trying time.

Last month Tameka hosted a Diaper Drive Summer jam for us at Kangazoom and she was so open and willing to help the families we serve with diapers that she agreed to host it on the same day as Kile’s school play. Kile was playing the scarecrow in the Wiz at his school. And even though she was obligated to be there for her baby, Tameka stayed a very long time and celebrated with us at Kangazoom.

Tameka took pictures with everyone, danced, ate and had an awfully good time before she finally told me she had to go. She started gushing about the play that Kile was in and how she made his costume. I was in shock and had forgot for a minute that she is a fashion stylist and very skilled at making and designing clothes. She pulled out her camera phone and showed me all the photos. And Kile’s costume was dead on.

He looked like a great Scarecrow and an exact replica of the Scarecrow played by Michael Jackson so many years ago. Although I met Tameka’s younger two sons Usher V and Naviyd, I didn’t get to meet Kile that day, who Tameka calls her sweetest son.

Kile, although you played a cowardly lion on stage and showed the audience how courageous you are, I know you’ve got the COURAGE you need to pull through this today. Kile you CAN WIN and we’re all pulling for you big guy.

God Bless.

My heart is breaking for Tameka. When I shared this news with my sister this morning, I said exactly what you did about something terrible happening to my child when I am not there. That is news you never want to get. I am praying that this baby’s condition improves for the better. I hope she knows that there are so many who care.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

    Regards,
    Traci
