I received some delicious cookies in the mail with a message about giving back for the greater good. And you all know I am the diaper lady and giving back is what I do.
Today, Club Penguin, the #1 virtual world for kids, are giving back and empowering its players to do the same.
This holiday season, Club Penguin players will be changing the world through online play as part of their annual Coins for Change Event.
Starting today through Jan. 2nd, the Coins for Change program helps players celebrate the true meaning of the holidays by donating the virtual coins that they earn playing games online in Club Penguin to real-world causes that matter to them.
For this year’s event, Coins for Change will transform Club Penguin into the biggest virtual bake sale ever, with players baking virtual cookies and buying them with virtual coins that act as votes to influence where Club Penguin’s $1m US cash donation will go.
Since 2007, Club Penguin’s “Coins for Change” charity event has given out $9 million dollars to various charities worldwide. This year, organizers expect the event to pass the $10 million mark on donations from some of its 175 million players in its online community.
Some of the effects of the donations to more than 42 countries include school-building projects, school libraries, playgrounds, clean-water projects, and youth educations programs for both kids and their families
According to Disney, users donated more than 10 billion virtual coins last year.
As serious as the donation and its projects are, the event is designed for Club Penguin users to have fun, too. The event also will reward participating players by allowing them to temporarily transform into holiday characters. All players can transform into cars; subscribing members of the online community can transform into reindeer puffles and other items.
Club Penguin is one of the largest online virtual worlds for children. The online community contains no third-party advertising and is free to use. Subscription memberships also are sold to provide access to additional features in the community. It is played in English, German, Portuguese, French and Spanish.
