Dude, I am TOTALLY into this teen beach movie.
Forgive my ’60s lingo but this Teen Beach Movie, which is out today July 31st on DVD, is infectious with catchy dance tunes that has me and my kids humming along and wanting to hop aboard a surf-board and catch a wave on the Wet Side!
So I wasn’t born in the 60s but this movie is definitely a nod to Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon, the prince and princess of Beach Party movies! Teen Beach Movie is splashed with excitement, surprises and budding romance. Life’s a beach for surfers Brady (Ross Lynch) and McKenzie (Maia Mitchell)- until a rogue wave magically transport them inside the classic ’60s beach party flick, “Wet Side Story,” where a full blown rivalry between bikers and surfers threaten to erupt. There, amidst a sea of surfing, singing and dancing. Brady and Mack accidentally change the story line.
Surf Crazy Clip
The movie’s got all the cute, ooey-gooey goodness that comes with a beach party flick. The giggling Barbie-type girls who can make their romps shake like a salt shaker on cue, the smooth and Ken-type boys who swoon and woo the girls with a wink. And of course the cool rival motorcycle gang who give the movie an edge. Think Grease and a beach party palooza all rolled into a modern day fun-in-the-sun flick.
I enjoyed the high-energy of the movie and have watched it six times because I just can’t get some of the songs out my head. There’s a song where Mack and Brady can’t STOP SINGING and try to make it stop and you won’t stop singing that little ditty either! Very catchy tune.
Disney did it right with this movie. The choreography is playful and fun. And the movie is very entertaining. Mack and Brady try to hatch a plan to get back home and to try to get the hero and heroine of the movie to fall for each other. Mack and Brady are trapped in this movie and I love how they know they are in a movie and have fun joining in the fun. (Although Mack does so reluctantly.)
