Interview: @TheRealCocoJ Rocks @RadioDisney’s Holiday Concert in Atlanta!

It’s no wonder this Disney darling Coco Jones has a new single coming out in January called Shine Like Glitter, because she certainly shines bright like a diamond when you meet her and her bubbling personality sparkles and makes a little girl’s inside glow.

During a private meet and greet on Saturday, I got a chance to meet the Disney star, along with my daughter Mikaela who is a big fan of Coco’s. See, Mikaela’s been bumping the songs Don’t Push Me and Holla at the DJ for months and never even thought she’d meet the young lady singing those hype lyrics with the funky baseline. So Saturday’s meet and greet put Mikaela’s little mind in overdrive. She was star-struck, in la-la-land and couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that she was going to meet Coco face-to-face. Not only that, but she interviewed Coco one-on-one! It was surreal for Mikaela to engage and talk to Coco, a young lady who inspires my daughter and is a positive role model for a little brown girl at a time when many pop stars are popping and twerking their way to the top! Check out Mikaela’s interview with Coco Jones!

I brought Mikaela, my 7-year-old Milan and their friend Tommi to meet Coco so all three girls could meet and gaze at their real life idol who also played the lead role as Roxanne in the Disney channel hit movie Let It Shine.

Coco performed on Saturday to a medley of songs from Holla the DJ to the classics, This Christmas and one of my all-time favorites, All I Want for Christmas. She jammed to a packed crowd of fans from across Metro Atlanta at the Global Winter Wonderland, a decked-out carnival of a different kind with international vendors, artistic performers and the UniverSoul Circus on site. Radio Disney was on hand to play fun games with all of the concert-goers with prizes and lots of giveaways and takeaways from the event.

252226015And thanks to Coco’s mom, Javonda Jones, my girls got a personalized “Coco Loco” neon bag too! (Coco Loco is the pet name for her fans.)

If you don’t know who Coco is, this is a good time to get acquainted because the girl is doing big things and her career is booming.

Coco Jones is a 15-year-old singer who began her singing career at age 9. While singing the National Anthem for a crowd of 40,000 during a St. Louis Rams’ football game, she managed to catch the eye of Disney scouts. In 2010, Coco emerged as a finalist in Radio Disney‘s “N.B.T.” (Next Big Thing) program prior to its re-launch this year from a competition to a year-round music showcase Since then, Coco has hit the ground running by starring in the Disney Channel Original Movie, “Let It Shine,” and with the success of her debut single, “Holla at the DJ”.

When I met Coco I came away saying to myself, I want my daughters to be like that! A breath of fresh-air, kind, considerate and self-assured is how she came across. As you can see in the interview Mikaela was acting a bit shy and Coco jumped right in and made Mikaela feel comfortable enough to ask questions. And I found out first hand from Coco’s mom Javonda Jones just why her daughter’s that way. Javonda said she raises her kids with lots of love, hugs and kisses and she tells them EVERYDAY they are loved. It’s that kind of positive affirmation Javonda and her husband gives their kids that helps them to believe in their dreams.

Coco said in January she’ll drop a new single just in time for her Sweet 16 birthday (Her birthday is Jan 4th). The song will be called Shine Like Glitter, appropriately titled for a young lady who glistens!

Thank you to the Wonderful Radio Disney crew. Kelly, Angela, Cody and Eunice because they were REALLY kind and accommodating and put on a GREAT event that my kids and I thoroughly enjoyed!

    Hello Cincomom,

Great article! We definitely need more positive role models like Coco Jones. Mikaela did a terrific job with the interview, you have a budding reporter on your hands. Thank you again for taking Tommi to her first concert, she will always remember it.
