“Doc McStuffins” Creator Chris Nee to Be Honored at @ArtemisMedicalSoc Inaugural Conference

Artemis Medial Society announced that Chris Nee, the creator and Executive Producer of the critically acclaimed Disney Junior series “Doc McStuffins,” will be honored as the first recipient of the Artemis Medical Society White Coat Award at their inaugural conference this September in Dallas, Texas.  The conference will take place at the Westin Galleria Dallas from September 26 to 28, 2014.

“We are so happy to announce that Chris Nee will be the first recipient of the Artemis Medical Society White Coat Award” expressed Dr. Myiesha Taylor, President, Artemis Medical Society.  “Chris is very deserving of this honor for her work in creating ‘Doc McStuffins.’  Doc is an inspiration to our members and is a wonderful tool to help encourage young girls around the world to pursue their dream of becoming a physician.”

The Artemis Medical Society White Coat Award is given to an exceptional individual who has demonstrated through their work a clear commitment to advancing diversity in medicine.  This work can be a tangible project or product that has helped raise awareness of cultural issues in medicine or shined light on the need for greater physician diversity.

“Chris’ creation of ‘Doc McStuffins’ sparked the birth of a movement and helped foster a new discussion about the lack of diversity in America’s physician workforce” said Dr. Donna Hamilton, Vice President for Communications.  “We are honored to have been able to work with her and Disney Junior on sharing our passion for medicine and encouraging children to become the physicians our society needs.  We are excited to have her at our conference and present her with our inaugural White Coat Award.”

Artemis Medical Society was born from the “We Are Doc McStuffins” movement and was formed to help promote an environment in medicine where women of color from around the world can come together to support and learn from each other across all medical specialties. Since their formation they have worked diligently to create a supportive environment by fostering a strong sense of community among their membership. Artemis Medical Society believes women physicians of color are a vital part of an effective physician workforce that is responsive to, and aims to deliver quality healthcare to our increasingly diverse communities. Through mentoring, networking and advocacy, the organization is providing the foundation necessary to create a diverse physician workforce vital to our rapidly changing society.
