My daughter Kaitlin is on an amazing adventure in Peru with a group of awesome girls as part of a program called Girls Going Global.
I have truly been impressed by this program mission to introduce young black girls to travel experiences abroad and heighten their awareness of the world around them
Run by Spelman grad, Martice Sutton, Girls Going Global is a non profit organization seeking to address the disparity of girls of color in international education and today’s field of travel and international affairs. Girls Going Global provides global leadership programming to girls from underrepresented communities. Our mission is to empower girls of color through travel and cultural exchange to become creators and leaders of the world.
Girls examine global issues and participate in service learning projects in our Passport To The World program, equipped with the most important tool to change the world through our Passport Scholarship program, and engage in intercultural exchange and service in our Summer Travel Camp.
GGG currently serves girls in the Philadelphia and Atlanta areas. I highly recommend this program because it was truly organized from beginning to end. And that is a pet peeve of mine. Another thing is, our black girls need to learn to embrace the word outside of what they know and where they live. This is a great chance for them to do that and bond and embrace girls who look like them and embrace experiences they are different from what they know. It helps to build character and a love and appreciation for other people and other cultures. Go to GirlsGoingGlobal.org for more info
So far the girls have been going some amazing things!
Via @girlsgoingglobal “Our Global Girls had a beautiful day learning about the importance of weaving and salt mines to the Peruvian economy and culture. We got to feed (and take selfies with of course) some Llamas and Alpacas. And we visited the infamous salt mines in Sacred Valley. #GGGTakesPeru is in full effect…Next we take on 1 of the 7 Wonders of the World! Stayed tuned!” #BlackGirlsTravel#MakeYourMark #PowerOfAPassport#Travel#TeenTravel #IntlEd #GlobalEdu #Peru #Tourism#SouthAmerica #Teentravelcamp
